Another Coup?
During the last week, signs have become stronger that there might be another military Coup in Fiji soon. The Commander of the Fijian Army Bainimarama is threatening the government and especially the Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase to drop the "Promotion of Reconciliation, Tolerance and Unity Bill" (a bill that is rather racist towards the Indo-Fijians who make up about 45% of the population - I will write about this issue in another post soon!). Appearently the Fijians are not too worried about the whole thing. I guess they either don't care or they assume that it will not happen at all or they might think "Well, it is not our first Coup and we will deal with it once it is there". I just had a look at ard.de and zdf.de and they don't bother reporting about this. But who can blame them - the Pacific is just so bloody far away. But I will keep you posted on recent political developments, right after a short break, stay with me. This is Regina, reporting live from Suva, Fiji... (oh, I could get used to this!)
